Recently I watched an interview with Geoffrey Hinton — often called the godfather of AI. In 2024, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his groundbreaking work on artificial neural networks, work that fundamentally reshaped how machines learn. At one point, the interviewer asked him whether artificial intelligence could ever be conscious in the same way humans are.
